Physical Change – occurs when one or more physical properties of a substance are changed; many physical changes can be undone by physical means. Example – folding paper

Do Not change into a different substance Can change state (solid, liquid, gas, plasma)

Chemical Change – Occurs when one or more substances are changed into new substances with different properties; cannot be undone by physical means. Example – Burning paper

Chemical Change Change in color may occur Change in smell
Produce a gas or a precipitate Forms a new substance Can NOT easily be reversed
