3 Proving criteria The Business Profiling Team is part of the Business Registers Unit. Manages structures of complex businesses, local authorities and central government bodies Threshold for profiling: 250 persons employed by an enterprise, where the secondary activity has at least 125 persons employed. 2,000 persons employed central government 10,000 persons employed local authorities Re- profile on a four-yearly cycle.

4 Improvement of tools Using a computer completed template: Profile domestic enterprise group Identify existing enterprises within enterprise groups Examine legal unit tree structure List VAT registrations and PAYE (employment tax) schemes. List survey reporting structures and responses to surveys

12 Rules based on EU Regulation
A company can be in only one enterprise An enterprise can be based only on companies within the same truncated enterprise group (TEG) A TEG comprises a single interconnected structure with no circularity (a tree) All relationships are based on control, almost always >50% share ownership Branches of foreign companies form TEGs unless they are members of VAT group registrations VAT group registrations (control) take precedence over share ownership
