Why use the Global Grant? Financing Using the The Rotary Foundation is powerful Leverage the resources available! Three ‘Basic’ Ways to fund a $30,000 Global Grant Cycle of Funds; Annual DDF 7610 Advanced Financing (Using More DDF in exchange for Annual Shares Contribution) Global Grant Calculator Host Club Necessities Due Diligence 7610 GG Resources Global grants support large international activities with sustainable, measurable outcomes in Rotary’s areas of focus. A key feature of global grants is partnership, between the district or club where the activity is carried out and a district or club in another country. Both sponsors must be qualified before they can submit an application. The minimum budget for a global grant activity is $30,000. The Foundation’s World Fund provides a minimum of $15,000 and maximum of $200,000. Clubs and districts contribute District Designated Funds (DDF) and/or cash contributions that the World Fund matches. DDF is matched at 100% and cash is matched at 50%.

There is no ‘right’ way to fund your global grant Talk to your club, your District, your Host (overseas) Club, & your Host (overseas) District to find availability of funds Band together with other Rotary Clubs to form alliances and further leverage funds Next we’ll look at three different examples illustrating how to finance a $30,000 global grant Global grants support large international activities with sustainable, measurable outcomes in Rotary’s areas of focus. The Power of DDF Financing
Using Club Financing Only: $20,000 Club(s) Cash Contribution (must add 5%/ $1,000 admin) $10,000 TRF Match (50% Match) $30,000 Total Budget Positives: Won’t Depend on District for DDF Negatives: 50% TRF Match, Admin Fee, Takes Longer to Process Using DDF Financing: $15,000 DDF (Exch. for 50% or 7.5K to Annual Shares TRF) $15,000 TRF Match (100% Match) Positives: No Admin Fee, Quicker to Process, Funds Annual Shares, which in return comes back in 3 years (more DDF) Negatives: Limited DDF Each Year; coordinate with Club Presidents, still have to raise $ Global grants support large international activities with sustainable, measurable outcomes in Rotary’s areas of focus. Host Club Necessities Club experience in grant writing Discuss Host Club with The Rotary Foundation (TRF) Are they willing to vouch for local contractors? Club communication (via phone, , and /or Skype are essential) Do they understand permits/ legal constraints? Communicate with Host District Patricia Velkoff: Are responses timely and complete? Are they willing to vouch for contractors and other cooperationg organizations? Do they understand permits and legal constraints? Are they willing to provide before and after time-stamped photos?

Due Diligence Review Host Club’s past grant experience Open up dialogue with contractors Consider traveling to the project location Establish metrics to measure progress/successes Request feedback from all parties involved Make an MOU for all parties responsible Patricia Velkoff: Anticipate problems and how you will handle them. Ask hard questions: when would you recommend firing a contractor? What Club challenges would lead you to not work with a Host Club again?
