Schematic overview of the nest chamber of Camponotus fellah ants as described in Mersch et al. [1] at three different time points during the experiment. Three spatially distinct groups are present at any time performing different tasks, namely nursing (blue), cleaning (green) and foraging (red). Individuals within groups interact more frequently than individuals between groups, as indicated by the gray connectors.
