1 The perceptions and experiences of being Community First Responders: an interview study in the UK Viet-Hai Phung, Ian Trueman, Fiona Togher, Roderick Ørner, Niro Siriwardena. School of Health & Social Care, University of Lincoln, UK.

2 Background 2,431 Community First Responder (CFR) schemes in the United Kingdom, employing > 12,000 volunteers (Mort et al, 2014). CFRs enable patients to receive early medical attention while awaiting an ambulance response (Weir, 2015). Lincolnshire Integrated Voluntary Emergency Services (LIVES) is independent, working with, but not managed by ambulance trust. Interview study builds on systematic scoping review of CFRs and CFR schemes in the UK (Phung, et al., 2017). CFRs provide early medical attention to patients before ambulance crew arrive. LIVES is a charity separate from the ambulance service. Many CFR schemes in the UK are owned by the ambulance service. June 2017 – publication of systematic scoping review in Scandinavian Journal of Trauma, Resuscitation & Emergency Medicine.

3 Aim: To explore the perceptions and experiences of CFRs in a rural location. Objective: Qualitative semi-structured interviews with CFRs.
