2 How does geothermal energy rise to the surface so that it is useful?
Geothermal Energy is electricity produced from the thermal energy generated and stored in the Earth. How does geothermal energy rise to the surface so that it is useful?

4 ELECTRICITY! The USE of geothermal energy is primarily for
This is done through a geothermal power plant.

7 Here is a geothermal power plant that exists in the country Kenya…

9 Advantages of GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

10 The most important advantage of geothermal energy is that it is inexhaustible until the center of the earth cools. If that ever happens, we'll be worried about more than just some electricity! Another very important advantage is that geothermal energy does not pollute the atmosphere.

11 One geothermal energy advantage is that the footprint of this energy source is very small. Compared to the size of a coal or natural gas power plant, a geothermal plant is much less invasive to the environment. Because no energy is required to run the plant, geothermal plants are very inexpensive to run and maintain. Once built, they require minimal manpower and energy to produce geothermal energy to serve the local community.

12 Disadvantages of GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

13 The main disadvantage is that few locations on the planet are suitable for a good geothermal power plant. The reason is that the location must be close enough to the earth's crust that a hole can be dug to access the heat. Most regions are not this close to the earth's crust, making the most suitable locations those near fault lines or volcanoes. Another major disadvantage of geothermal energy is that nothing lasts forever. Some plants will generate tons of electricity for 10 years or more, then suddenly stop producing steam one day. As the earth's crust shifts with small earthquakes, the heat source can disappear, making that geothermal plant useless.

14 Finally, high costs are a major geothermal energy disadvantage
Finally, high costs are a major geothermal energy disadvantage. Most organizations want to insure that their investments pay off in the long run, but it can be a gamble with geothermal power plants. Because some locations stop producing electricity after a number of years, these investors are usually very cautious to spend tens of thousands of dollars for this energy source. $$$
