Family: Scincidae Genus: Eumeces Species : E. fasciatus Identification: adults with faded stripes gray tail; breeding male with red-orange jaws; juveniles with 5 light stripes and blue tail. Length: 5-8 inches Range: Northern range reaches Ontario, CN; east to coastal forests of Atlantic plain; south and west to Texas excluding the gulf coast and Florida. Habitat: Prefers damp woods with leaf litter; shaded gardens Ecology: Diurnal; spends most of its day foraging; terrestrial but will occasionally forage in trees for insects in woodlands.
