Concentration and Solubility

Concentration Concentrated Solution has lots of solute dissolved in a certain amount of solvent. Dilute Solution has only a little solute dissolved in a certain amount of solvent. To measure concentration, you compare the amount of solute to the total amount of solution.

Solubility Solubility is a measure of how much solute can dissolve in a solvent at a given temperature. Unsaturated Solution are solutions that can still dissolve more solute in it. Saturated are solutions that you have added so much solute that no more dissolves. Solubility is a characteristic property of matter.

Factors Affecting Solubility
Pressure Increasing pressure increases solubility Type of Solvents Polar and nonpolar compounds do not mix well (oil and Vinegar). Temperature Solubility increases as the temperature increases in case of Solids and liquids. For gases, solubility decreases as temperature increases. Supersaturated Solutions Has more dissolved solute than is predicted by its solubility at the given temperature.
