Summary: We had a standard opening. We took notes on the importance of pH on living things, and watched a video on Acid Rain. We saw slides showing damage from acid rain.

Carbohydrate = Biochemicals composed of one or more simple sugars bonded together that are used as a source of energy, cell wall support, and wood structure. Starch = A carbohydrate built on sugars with multiple bonds. Provides energy after being digested by all animals.
10
Cellulose = A carbohydrate made of many sugars bound tightly together
Cellulose = A carbohydrate made of many sugars bound tightly together. Simple stomach animals utilize cellulose as fiber, while ruminants convert it to protein through bacterial synthesis. Protein - biochemicals that are composed of amino acids; their functions include regulating chemical activities, transporting and storing materials, and providing structural support.
11
Sugar A carbohydrate built on simpler molecules that are easily digested by all animals. Glucose is the source of all energy from plants.
12
Nucleic acid = Biochemicals that store information and help to build proteins. Made of subunits called nucleotides. Organic = Materials having carbon-based molecules. Often considered a molecule from a living organism.
13
Lipids = Biochemical compound based on C-H-O which contains 2 ¼ times the calories (energy) of an equal amount of sugar. Used also for other physical health needs besides energy.

Blue litmus turns red = Acid
Measuring pH 1. Indicators - change color based on pH reaction. Blue litmus turns red = Acid Red litmus turns blue = Base Blue litmus remains blue may be base Red litmus remains red may be acid If both Red and Blue litmus remains their color, solution is neutral.
