What is a fossil? A fossil is the remains of organisms that lived long ago. Fossils are: Found in the earth—such as bones Found in rocks—the shape of the animals bones have left an imprint Found in amber—fully formed insects, bugs, etc are encased in the rock like formation

What do fossils tell us? Fossils tell us: How different plants and animals are related How long life has existed on Earth What plants and animals looked like in the past They show us how animals lived or what they ate.
