Literacy Our book for the week is “Underwater” again and the sight words are “you & no”. Please have your child practice reading and writing their sight words at home. We will continue our adventure in Hawaii! Students will learn more about the flowers, volcanoes and fruit of Hawaii. Our journey will end with a class luau before Spring Break on Friday. In Reading Workshop, students will continue to learn about beginning consonant blends and use them to help figure our unknown words. We will finish the “r blends” this week. Students will continue to practice using their reading strategies as they read independently, with a buddy, and in a small group with me. In Writing Workshop, students will write about their favorite ocean animal. We did not get to this writing piece last week, so we will spend time this week working on it. Students will learn an important addition strategy: Think big, count small. This means that when students see an addition problem they should put the larger number in their head and count on with the smaller number. For example,2+6: “I think 6 and count up 2 more: 7, 8.” This is a strategy that students will be using next year in first grade to help solve addition problems. Students will also revisit 2D shapes and learn about their attributes: sides and corners.
