1 Intervention Assistance Team
STARS Is Born

2 The Intervention Assistance Team brings staff with different skill sets and experiences together to look at the learning difficulty which was identified, the interventions that were prescribed, the manner in which the intervention plan was administered, the student’s reactions to the intervention over time and then makes recommendations to refine the intervention plan in order to meet the needs of the student.

3 Intervention Team It doesn’t really matter what it has been called or will be called. The purpose of this team is to help students that are struggling in some way. This usually refers to academics but can include emotional/behavioral/social concerns.

9 Identify At-Risk Population
STEP 1 Identify At-Risk Population This is done on the whole through the MAP benchmarking process. The Response to Intervention plan initially addresses student needs.

10 Additional Identification
Students who have been identified at risk in previous years. Students whose behavior warrants a meeting. Students who are in the RTI process and previous years’ data shows a meeting before collection of 5-7 weeks of data may be warranted.

11 STEP 2 Referral Made Any staff member may make a referral.
Requires data and paperwork. Sometimes, parent concerns initiate a referral.

12 STEP 3 Initial Meeting Review - data - strengths - area(s) of concern
- determine where we need to intervene - develop plan to be implemented - schedule follow up meeting

13 Intervention Plan Begins
STEP 4 Intervention Plan Begins Staff member begins implementing plan and collects data as prescribed. A STARS team member will check in with the staff member every other week to see how the plan is progressing.

14 STEP 5 Follow Up Meeting The original members of the team should be present. If the student has shown progress – the interventions continue and/or the goal and material levels are revisited.

15 Follow Up Meeting If progress is not being made
The team verifies that the plan was implemented as prescribed. If the plan was carried out as expected and progress wasn’t made The team will suggest additional or different interventions.

16 STARS is a Cycle How long a student is in STARS is determined by the progress being made in the area(s) of need.

17 Give students a chance! It is very important that each student have the opportunity to be successful in the classroom with general education instruction. During the first weeks of school each child should have an equal opportunity to make progress.
