Internal routines Emergency response A company should have routines on how to act in case of a emergency. These routines should be practised on annual basis. An organisation should also have routines on how to deal with accidents outside the enterprise. The routines may concern an employees death or a mayor accident that affect someone in the organisation. To help the fire department the company can establish a emergency management group that have extra education and training in fire fighting on the facility. This group can make a first attempt to put out the fire and collect information that can be important to the fire department.

Planning The organisation should see to that there is enough water
Emergency response The organisation should see to that there is enough water supply in case of a fire. To help planning the organisation could make a couple of scenarios and ask themselves questions like: How does the wind affect a possible discharge or fire? Will the water supply be enough to fight the fire? Are the employees educated in using fire extinguishers and the chemicals? What is the response time of the fire brigade? Do the enterprise have enough resources to handle some incidents themselves? Practice with and without the fire department and play the scenarios to see if the organisation can manage the hazard. Use the opportunity and learn from the experience.
