Activity Subject ‘Activity’ can be divided in
Ignition sources Activities that may ignite the fuel. These are for example processes that involve open flames, sparks or risk for self ignition. Interruption sensitivity A organisation contains many various processes with varied sensitivity for interruption. Some processes take longer time to start up after an incident and can be very expensive during a longer stop.

Ignition source Activity Ignition of a fuel requires an ignition source. Examples of ignition sources are: Electrical sparks Mechanical sparks Hot surfaces Hot wires An open flame Self ignition Thunder Smouldering fire
3
Ignition source The location of the ignition source
Activity The location of the ignition source is of great importance. Flame spread is much faster upward than downward. Some materials, for example drying oils, can self-ignite due to chemical oxidation that generates heat. It is important to know the behaviour of the chemicals handled within the enterprise. Hours Minutes Seconds Fire spread

Interruption sensitivity
Activity The enterprise should be seen as various processes. Every process are connected with costs due to material, machines, personnel and profit due to production. Each process affects the enterprise variously in case of an incident. It is important to know the costs of each process step during a stand still. The process that can affect the enterprise with highest costs should get the most attention and precautions should be made to make it less sensitive.

Interruption sensitivity
Activity When performing a sensitivity analysis questions should be asked like: What are the costs and profits of each process? What are the costs of each process step during a stand still? What are the consequence of a process stand still? What other processes are affected? Which process is the most sensitive one? Which process have the greatest effect on the enterprise profit? How long does it take to start up the process? What actions has to be taken to start it up?
