1 Resources

2 The publication of GIRM/CTM provides a valuable opportunity for engaging afresh with the renewal of the liturgy that was called for by Vatican II. However GIRM and CTM are documents that in many ways are reference documents. It is hoped that people will read them, and CTM especially has been organised in a way that makes it relatively easy to read. Some people – for example, clergy, liturgy preparation groups, other principal liturgical ministers – have ministerial responsibilities which require that they read and grapple with the issues raised by GIRM and CTM. But it is desirable that the vision of the liturgy, and especially the vision of liturgical participation is explored by the Catholic community much more broadly. So a range of supplementary documents have been prepared. (click)

3 With Hearts and Minds is the principal resource
With Hearts and Minds is the principal resource. It is intended for small groups in the parish – but can also be used by parish teams with their liturgy preparation groups. There are two books. The Leaders book and the Participants Book (With Hearts and Minds is explored in more detail on another set of powerpoint slides) The value of small groups in the parish reflecting on the liturgy should not be under-estimated. However not every member of the parish will be in such groups. For that reason a further resource has been prepared: In Communion with Christ. (click)

4 In Communion with Christ – a programme formed around the celebration of Sunday Mass
With materials to assist the homilist and take-away sheets for the whole parish, and also special sheets for parents of young families. All materials are freely available from the Liturgy Office website – In Communion with Christ is intended to be used alongside WHM. It follows the same themes as are explored in the small groups but uses different materials. It is complementary, and not intended as an alternative (although some may wish to use it in that way). (Further details concerning ICWC are provided on another Powerpoint presentation) Still further resources have also been prepared. (click)

5 A series of leaflets each one is addressed to those exercising a specific liturgical ministry. There are presently some 20 different leaflets in this series. There is a common pattern to them all: a simple introduction speaking of Year of the Eucharist and GIRM/CTM A section what does the Church say about this ministry – either from GIRM or CTM or both. A section about preparation for ministry A prayer section – a passage from scripture, and a prayer. Again these are all freely available for downloading from the website. (Click)

6 Deanery WHM It may be helpful for some of the issues raised in GIRM/CTM to be explored in deanery meetings. A series of 3 two-sided A4 sheets have been produced for use in that context. They focus on three key themes: Participation Word Symbols These sheets are available on the website. (Click)

7 Issues sheets The final set of material!
With Hearts and Minds and In Communion With Christ offer an opportunity to explore the broader aspects of our celebration of the liturgy – ensuring that the overall context is kept in sight. Sometimes there may be need to address particular issues, perhaps because they have become evident in the light of parish use of With Hearts and Minds and In Communion With Christ . This series provides a single sheet for a whole range of issues that have been raised with the Liturgy Office by parishes and others. They provide reference to the relevant passages in GIRM/CTM and other recent Church documents, some questions to prompt reflection and some suggestions for good practice. There is also a work sheet to guide reflection on how any necessary change might be introduced into the parish. Again all these sheets are available on the website. (Click)

With Hearts and Minds (NB Abbreviated form for Deanery groups) A lot of resources are available. The Basics: GIRM, CTM Parish Groups: With Hearts and Minds NB Deanery Form of WHM

9 A lot of resources The Basics Parish Groups Sunday Mass materials
GIRM CTM Parish Groups With Hearts and Minds (NB Abbreviated form for Deanery groups) Sunday Mass materials In Communion with Christ Other materials Ministers sheets Issues Sheets Sunday Mass materials: In Communion with Christ Other materials: Ministers sheets/Issues Sheets You can’t use everything – you’d go nuts. So you have to choose – some or none. The role of the Bishop is key here. He is the person charged with oversight of the liturgy in the diocese. The Holy See continues to remind of the role of the Bishop. What formation is needed? Call to mind your imaginary friend again. What does he need for his own ministry? What would he like to offer to the ministers he works with – musicians, readers and others? What about the assembly as a whole? What would he want to offer to them? What help does he need. An exercise.

10 Some scenarios Need for significant formation across the Diocese, starting from a generally low level General formation is fine, but there are some particular issues that need addressing Everything is fine Need for significant formation across the Diocese, starting from a generally low level In this case – our recommendation would be WHM with CWC. With introductory sessions for the priests and principal co-workers. 2. General formation is fine, but there are some particular issues that need addressing. Encourage use of WHM/CWC, but have sessions for priests and principal co-workers to introduce GIRM/CTM and make use of Issue sheets. 3. Everything is fine. So over to you. How are things? How do you think you might proceed? Work sheet.
