5 Absurd It would be absurd to wear a fur coat in 100 degree weather. Definition: completely unreasonable or untrue

6 Numerous There are numerous books in the library that I want to read. Definition: many/several

7 courteous The courteous man helped his neighbor carry groceries into her house. Definition: having manners and respect for others.

8 escalate Because of the high demand for fuel in the summer, gas prices usually escalate. Definition: to increase the intensity or amount of something

9 Peculiar The students were excited to taste the peculiar fruit their teacher had brought for them. Definition: different from the usual or norm

10 establishment There are many new establishments being built down the street. Definition: a place of business

11 fund Ms. Scott asked her friends and family to fund a new carpet for the classroom! Definition: to supply with money
