2 Course Prerequisites You must have successfully completed Algebra II and Chemistry If you have not, please see your counselor NOW.

3 Course Prerequisites Your grade in physics is generally comparable (give or take a few points) to your grade in Algebra II. If you barely squeaked by (D), or made a low C (<80) in Algebra II, chances are this is not the best subject for you.

4 Supplies and Fees $10 lab fee Signed Lab Contract
Signed Internet Usage Contract (on file) Three ring binder/paper Calculator PENCILS

5 Course Content Mechanics States of Matter Waves and Light Electricity
Modern Physics

6 Projects Each nine weeks you will be assigned a project which will count as two test grades. It can make or break your average. The four projects range widely in their scope and presentation. Each student will be assigned the same project, but due to the broad nature of the projects, each will be decidedly unique.

7 Assessment Assignments will include: *daily worksheets *HOMEWORK
*quizzes *tests *projects *labs

8 Homework You will need to plan to give me at least 30 minutes study time each night. I do not compete with TV, or music/noisemakers of any kind. I get 30 minutes of your undivided attention each night, Monday thru Thursday. There will be nights when you need to give me more time. If you do, more power to you.

9 Homework School is your job.
If it is necessary for you to work, then you need to figure out when you can work in your study time. It might have to be early Saturday morning, or in lieu of a Sunday afternoon nap. However, I own two hours of your out of school time per week. NO EXCEPTIONS.

10 Homework I do not assign homework on the weekend. If this is a disappointment to you, feel free to work practice problems on your own.

11 Grade Calculation Daily grades, quizzes and labs will count as 50% of your grade. Tests will count as the other 50% of your grade.

12 Grading Scale 95 – 100 A 94 – 85 B 84 – 75 C 74 – 70 D 69 – 0 F

13 Progress Reports Each student will be given a progress report at the midpoint of the nine weeks grading period. It must be signed by a parent or guardian and returned in a timely manner.

14 Honesty You are the future. I’m sure that you wouldn’t want a doctor who cheated on a test performing brain surgery on you or a member of your family. I expect you to do you own work at all times. If you are unable to commit to this policy, maybe this is not the class for you.

15 Exams The nine weeks test grade will count as 25% of the first and third nine weeks grade. The semester exams will count as one fourth of your semester grade.

16 Classroom Rules Follow all CHS rules.
It is important to show respect for yourself, your fellow students, and your teacher. Good manners are probably the single-most important characteristic you will learn, both in and outside of school. You are expected to practice them on a daily basis.

17 Classroom Rules Snacks and drinks sold by CHS may be consumed in the classroom. You must clean up your area. If you spill, you clean. Do not wear perfume/cologne/aftershave or scented lotions. Do not apply scented lotions in class. This is a health issue.

18 Daily Routine Enter class quietly, be seated in your assigned seat, and begin working on the posted bell work. If it is necessary to sharpen your pencil, do so before the tardy bell. When the tardy bell rings, roll will be called. Please answer quickly and simply. The bell does not dismiss you. I do.

19 Absences The best policy is not to miss school. Makeup work is difficult. Please schedule appoints at times other than during physics class. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get all makeup work and to schedule makeup tests. No makeup work, no grade.

20 Absences If you are on official absence, you MUST get your makeup work before you leave. If you are on official absence, you are considered present. If a test is assigned for the day you return from an official absence, you are responsible for taking it the day it is given.
