Warm-Up: Dumbing Down The phrase “dumbing down” is said to have originated in 1933, to describe how movie script-writers had to change their scripts to make them understandable to people with little education and widen their audience. How does this relate to “Harrison Bergeron”? Do you think movies still do that today?

Receive your topic and notes page with your table group. Highlight your topic on the notes page, and write your name. Read the article provided, discuss it with your group, and fill in the notes for your topic. MEMORIZE YOUR NOTES – You will have to teach your topic to other students without looking at your notes.

Pass your notes to Ms. Gillette Join your new group, and decide who is teaching first. When it is your turn, teach the other two about your topic. Listen to the other topics, carefully remembering the key points to fill in your notes. When time is up, you will be given your notes back to fill in.
