ARPAS Mission Statement: The American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists (ARPAS) provides certification of animal scientists through examination, continuing education, and commitment to a code of ethics, and disseminates applied scientific information through publication of the peer-reviewed journal The Professional Animal Scientist.

3. ARPAS Vision Statement: To be recognized as a source for certified professional animal scientists to serve animal producers, industry, and all others desiring research-based technical information on the animal sciences.

8. Categories of Certification
Professional Animal Scientist (PAS)—based on degree, experience, examination, and CEUs
Registered Animal Specialist (RAS) and Registered Animal Product Specialist (RAPS)—based on experience, examination, and CEUs
Board Certification (Diplomate)—highest requirements; available to professionals with an MS or PhD degree who qualify and can benefit from the highest level of certification

9. PAS or RAS/RAPS registration
PAS and RAS/RAPS registration can be in one or more of the following species/product areas:

10. ARPAS CEUs
ARPAS reviews programs and approves events that qualify for continuing education units (CEUs)
16 CEUs of appropriate education are required annually to insure that members stay current in their field

11. Board Certification
The American College of Animal Sciences (ACAS) provides for Board Certification in a specific discipline college of animal science.
The Discipline colleges are:
Applied Animal Behavior Animal Food Science
Animal Breeding and Genetics Animal Nutrition
Animal Physiology Animal Welfare Science

California: conducts a symposium at Harris Ranch in the fall, scholarships for students, raised money and conducted two research projects
Colorado/Wyo/Neb: two meetings and educational programs each year

Northeast: new in 2011, currently meeting at the Penn. State Dairy Nutr. Conf.

Pacific NW: student travel scholarships; chapter meeting with Pacific NW Nutr. Conf.
Southern Great Plains: spring meeting with Plains Nutrition Council; co-sponsored Feed Management Program in the fall.
South Central- two meetings, one with So. Section ASAS in the Spring and one at another location in the Fall.
Midwest Chapter: new in 2011; meetings at Tri-State DNC, 4-State DNC, Minnesota Nutrition Conference and Midwest ASAS/ADSA; sponsored a speaker at meetings and a student presentation competition

23. The ARPAS Foundation Founded in 2007 as a nonprofit entity
Purpose: To sponsor educational programs for members and pay for ARPAS exams for students
Governed by a foundation board with input from ARPAS members. The board oversees fund raising, evaluates proposed activities, and provides guidance for education programs.
Current assets of $175,000. Only earnings are used to fund activities such as chapter support, education meetings and membership and member development activities.

24. Distinguished Professional Animal Scientist Award
Retired and previous ARPAS leader with a distinguished career as an Animal Scientist
We have honored 24 of out emeritus members since inception of the award in 2008
Approximately 3/year (0.3% of membership)
Our 201 awardees were:

Dr. Jerry Poley-past officer position with the Washington DC Chapter
