2. Figure 45A Radiograph of the left hand. What do you observe?
This image shows increased cortical thickness and density of the bones of the hand and wrist, with bone-in-bone appearance in the metacarpal bones suggestive of osteopetrosis. In addition, there is an old avulsion fracture of the base of the proximal phalanx V.

This scan shows increased bone mineral density of the lumbar vertebrae (z score, +5.4). Here the increased cortical thickness is even more striking.
