Blood Pressure
2
Sphygmomanometer First sound: systolic Second sound: Diastolic
3
Contraction of the heart
SA node stimulates the atria AV node collects the stimulus at the septa and funnels it into the Bundle of His which carries the impulse to the ventricle. The purkinje fibers at the end of the Bundle of His stimulate the ventricles The delay allows for atrium and ventricle to not be stimulated at the same time.
5
Countercurrent exchange: more effective exchange due to flow in opposite directions
8
How does hemoglobin let go of oxygen?
Increased carbon dioxide lowers the pH (carbonic acid is formed) making the curve for oxygen dissociation change. Lungs that have high CO2 levels would release their oxygen
9
Bohr’s shift: oxygen dissociation curve
10
