Why do we assess students?
To understand what students know and can do To report performance to government agencies To assist parents to understand their children’s progress and needs To inform instructional practices – How much did the students’ master? What do I need to re-teach? To monitor and/or evaluate instructional programs and/or curricula Selection of students into programs

How do we assess students?
Consider the current practice in your classroom. Complete the “Assessment Inventory” in your handout. Remember to include all forms of informal and formal assessment.
