LARP Phase II Secondary Collimator RC-0 and RC-1
Collimator Development Status Revised 03/16/09 LARP LHC PHASE II COLL RC1 - S. Lundgren 16 Mar No 1 /5
2
RC-1 Status 1st Mandrel mounted in 4th. axis milling machine for grooving. Part delayed due lack of at vendor. 1st Hub plating and final machining in the SLAC shop queue. 1st Mandrel/Coil Assembly is planned for winding in early April with brazing to follow. Will release Mandrel Braze assembly machining drawing after brazing has been completed. Glidcop material for the Jaws is delayed. Delivery not until mid-May!! LARP LHC PHASE II COLL RC1 - S. Lundgren 16 Mar No 2 /5

Near Term End Support Flex Vane drawings in work now.
Braze tests are planned later for round tubing configuration. Square Cu-Ni tubing obtained from CERN will be brazed into square grooved mandrel section at a later date. LARP LHC PHASE II COLL RC1 - S. Lundgren 16 Mar No 3 /5

Tank design concept defined
Tank constructed from a standard 355.6mm dia. x 6.35mm wall type 304 Stainless Steel pipe. Combining the CERN bellows/tank base plate design with a modified pipe seems to make the most sense for us at this time. Flanges on each end provide access to the RF foils, end supports and ratchet mechanisms after the appropriate cool down period. Chain Tensioners clamp the CF gaskets LARP LHC PHASE II COLL RC1 - S. 90 Degree Collimator orientation used for Robustness Test
Existing CERN Phase 1 Cross Roller Dives with upgraded motors Existing CERN Phase 1 Interface Plate & Stand Use 90 Degree orientation in LHC Tunnel ? Use upgraded CERN Drives ? Remove other beam pipe for installation? LARP LHC PHASE II COLL RC1 - S. Lundgren 16 Mar No 5 /5
