Spanish Catholic Friar/Priest & Missionary When & Where? 1690, East Texas (20 miles northeast of Crockett, TX) What Did He Do? Established the first mission in East Texas, Mission San Francisco de los Tejas. The mission was abandoned when the local Hasinai Indians begin to turn hostile towards the Spanish; the Missionaries buried the mission bells and destroyed the mission as they left.

Who Was He? Spanish Catholic Friar & Missionary When & Where? 1711; sent letter to French governor in Louisiana ; Ramón Expedition to East Texas What Did He Do? Convinced the French Governor to help him reestablish the East Texas Missions along with the Frenchman, St. Denis. Re-established Mission San Francisco de los Tejas in East Texas Helped establish 6 total missions in East Texas as part of the Ramón expedition. - After the East Texas Missions failed, he returned to San Antonio de Valero (The Alamo).

Who Was He? Spanish Roman Catholic Friar & Missionary When & Where? 1717; Joined the Ramón Expedition in East Texas What Did He Do? Helped establish the final two missions of the Ramón Expedition; Nuestra Señora de los Dolores and San Miguel de los Adaes in 1717. The settlement at Los Adaes, near Louisiana, became the Spanish Capital of the province of Texas.

1st Spanish Governor of the province of Nuevo Santander, which included northern Mexico and South Texas. “Father of the Rio Grande Valley” When & Where? 1748; Made Governor of Nuevo Santander. ; Established colonies and towns in South Texas between the San Antonio River and the Rio Grande. What Did He Do? Established the town of Laredo in 1755, it would become one the most successful permanent Spanish settlement in South Texas. Established the first cattle ranches in Texas (haciendas).
