Instead of going into the box, we will expand out of the box.

2. The Whole Idea
You are going to manipulate foam blocks into the forms that you need to construct your idea.
Each of those blocks will be encased in papier mache and strung onto wire.
This arrangement of forms will be mounted onto a small box provided by you.
The entire sculpture will be painted into a coherent concept that works visually from top to bottom and front to back.

3. The piece will turn out like this
What you are trying to achieve is a visual tension, meaning the piece looks as though it is about to do something- we do not know what- but the pieces are arranged in such a way that they are somehow unsettling.
The best way to achieve this is to try and make your piece look as if it defies gravity.

4. There are many ways to do this
This piece goes straight up, but no segment is perfectly balanced upon another.

5. This Piece is Very Similar
But the color palette is greatly reduced and the base is really big.

6. There Are Very Few Rules
You are not limited to what we have here in the classroom.
Go beyond these examples and add in your own touch.
We don’t want these to all look the same as the ones that have been done before.
