1
Do now List the three types of plate boundaries and describe what geographic features you would find at each one.
2
Crustal Movement
3
Crustal Movement CRUST: The rocky outer surface of the Earth
When layers of sedimentary rock are disturbed after they have been deposited (laid down) Sedimentary rocks are deposited in horizontal layers called “beds” or “strata” What kinds of things do you think could make the Earth’s crust move and change?
4
How are sedimentary rocks deposited?
5
Evidence Suggesting Minor Changes in the Earth’s Crust
The Principle of Original Horizontality When sedimentary rock layers are laid down in horizontal layers
8
Deformed Strata Any sedimentary layer that is no longer horizontal
Three Main Types: Folded Layers that are bent or wavy Tilted Layers that are at an angle Faulted Layers that do not match up
9
Folded Strata
10
Tilted Strata
11
Faulted Strata
12
Scientists use these strata to calculate the age of the Earth.
Fossils of the same specimen might be found in different layers of the same age.
13
Uplifting / Subsidence
Layers of strata are pushed up Subsidence Layers sink due to accumulation
14
Major Events That Cause Crustal Movement
Earthquakes, Volcanoes, And Plate Movements
