Limestone A sedimentary rock formed from the remains of tiny sea animals.

Ridge A long, raised strip of land that runs parallel to the coast.

Rivers Florida’s streams and rivers carry and drop sediment along the coast. 2 main rivers Apalachicola River- huge floodplain, empties into the Gulf St John’s River-is the LONGEST river in Florida, along East coast

Lakes… There are more than 7,000 lakes. Formed due to the limestone and karst topography. The largest is Lake Okeechobee (6M at deepest point).

Wetlands… The Everglades is a large wetland…formed on a limestone base…which is fed from Lake Okeechobee.

Coastal Features… Barrier islands and built up sand bars form most of our coastal features. Florida Keys and the reefs are made of calcite.

Landform Regions… There are 3 main regions…Northern Highlands, Central Highlands and the Coastal Lowlands
