1 Using dialogue Consider using the pictures in these slides to help you develop ideas for your writing. You do not need to use these pictures or ideas if you have some of your own already! 

2 Use the pictures to help you create ideas for your dialogue.
We could just say, “Marsha was frustrated with her husband.” However, we could show this with dialogue.

3 We could just say, “Ben and Harold were afraid.”
However, we could show this through dialogue—what did they say that shows us how afraid they are?

4 We could say, “Sue and Janet were excited because they won a free vacation to Maui.”

We could tell the reader, “Jane is a self-centered person.” However, we could show this—what does she say?

7 We could say, “David was angry,” but that’s not nearly as interesting as showing us the angry dialogue.

8 We could say, “Jeremy was an annoyingly cheerful morning person.”
What does he say to his wife, his colleagues at work, his friends that shows how energetic he is ?

9 We could say, “Mr. Clark was a grumpy patient who never liked anything
However, we could show the reader that he is grumpy by creating a dialogue. What does he say? How does he say it?
