3 Grammar pattern of the Day:
A run-on sentence is two or more complete sentences written as though they were one sentence. Examples:  Most asteroids are small and far away therefore they are dim and hard to see.

14 1st-5th: Agenda Complete warm up
Have students get into pairs. Each pair should take out a sheet of paper. Show the beginning of Shrek 2, stopping at the point when Shrek and Fiona get out of the carriage in Far, Far Away. Have students note allusions they notice in the film. Briefly discuss allusions they saw and speculate on why authors, movie directors, and people in general use allusions. Distribute allusions graphic organizer. Have pairs of students look back at the play and find the allusions. They should explain them and make an inference about why each one is included. Have students read the story of Pyramus and Thisbe. What are the connections between this story and Romeo and Juliet? Why might Shakespeare have had Mercutio mention this story? Summarizer: Distribute a post it note to each student. Have each student write a summarizing sentence about an allusion in Romeo and Juliet or authors’ use of allusions in general. Have students post this note on the door as they leave

Explain.” Read the prologue of Romeo and Juliet with the students. Then, with their Act I Packet, have them translate the Prologue into everyday terms Begin reading Act I of R & J with the urban slang version, assigning parts
