Tips for running the exercise Time required 50 mins - 1 hour depending on the size of the group Materials Large sheets of white paper to make a cross, washable marker pens to write on laminate figures, large sheet of paper to record gifts and talents of the group. Tips 1.Make sure theres enough figures for at least 2-3 per person. If theres not enough you can use the laminate figure as a template to cut out more figures in paper or card. 2.At the beginning of the exercise provide an example of writing on one of the figures. If the activity is a bit slow in getting going – put people in 2s and 3s to discuss for a few minutes before writing on their figures. 3.Play music once all the figures have been placed on the cross for people to reflect on the range of gifts and talents. Sketch - Feeding the Hungry And in those days Jesus crossed to the far shore of the sea of Galilee And a great crowd of people followed him because they had seen the miraculous signs he had performed upon the sick And the disciples said to Jesus, Where shall we find food for all these people to eat? But Andrew spoke up and said, Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and – Oh, Sorry What? Ive eaten them Youve WHAT? Ive eaten my sardine rolls But – you cant. I have No, you dont understand – youre supposed to offer your loaves and fishes so Jesus can feed the 5000. Well, like I said, Im sorry. Sorry?? That hardly seems adequate – Look it was my packed lunch, wasnt it? I was hungry. But what about the crowd? What crowd? This crowd. (pointing to the audience) The 5000 that are supposed to be being fed. What about them? Look you stupid little boy, it was your sardine rolls that were supposed to feed them. Yeh, well you said it – they were my sardine rolls and Ive eaten them. Anyway if this Jesus is such a hotshot, he ought to be able to pull a gourmet meal out of thin air. But the whole point of the story is that God wants us to use what weve got, however little… To share around what hes given us….. And youve just wolfed the lot And the 5000 are still hungry. (Leaving) Yeh, well like I said - sorry One Two One Two Boy One Boy Two Boy One Boy Two Boy One Boy Two Boy One Boy Two Boy One Two One Two Boy Toolkit 1 Celebrating what we have – 5 of 7
