1. Indifferently -- To do or say in an uncaring manner without an bias. Jack asked Judy where she would like to eat Friday night and Judy indifferently said that it did not matter.

2. Gaunt -- Bleak and barren; thin and bony.
The fashion model on the cover of the magazine looked gaunt and unhealthy.

3. Ruminate -- To reflect or contemplate upon someone or something.
Mr. Utterson ruminated on his conversation with Mr. Hyde and wondered why Dr. Jekyll took an interest in such a creature.

4. Qualm -- A sudden feeling of sickness or doubt.
Mr. Utterson had no qualms about telling Dr. Jekyll that he was uncomfortable with the terms of the will.

5. Oration -- A lecture or formal speech.
The surgeon who owned the house before Dr. Jekyll would frequently give medical orations in the theatre beside the laboratory.

6. Apprehension -- Suspicion or fear of an evil that will possibly occur in the future. Utterson could sense Poole and the other servants’ apprehension at what may have been behind the laboratory door.

7. Resolve -- To determine or to make a decision about; to separate into distinct parts. Mr. Utterson resolved to figure out who Hyde was and why he was in Jekyll’s will.

8. Disperse -- To break up or scatter.
The protestors were forced to disperse when the police officers arrived.

9. Elicit -- To draw out or to provoke.
Sir Danvers Carew spoke to Mr. Hyde on the street and this elicited an angry, violent response from Hyde.

10. Obliging -- Able and ready to do favors; courteous.
Mr. Utterson was extremely obliging when it came to helping his longtime friend and client Dr. Jekyll.
