3. W HAT IS A F ISTULA Natural fistulas can develop between the end of the bowel and skin near the anus and is known as anus fistula. It can also develop between vagina and rectum known as rectovaginal fistula or between vagina and intestine referred to as enterovaginal fistula. A fistula is tube like connection, an abnormally grown tube, which is formed between two vessels or organs. They may occur in the urinary, circulatory, digestive or reproductive tracts. Fistulas usually develop because of a disease, injury, infection and sometimes surgery.
