How to Study the Bible Lesson 3/4 What Do I see different in the following passages when looking at them from a different version Genesis 2:4-25 Psalm 23 Isaiah 9:6-7 Matthew 5:1-12 Acts 9:1-19

Genesis 2:4-25 KJV 4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the L ORD God made the earth and the heavens, 5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the L ORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. 6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. 7 And the L ORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. 8 And the L ORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground made the L ORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. 10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. 11 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; 12 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. 13 And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. 14 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. 15 And the L ORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. commanded the man 16 And the L ORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. 18 And the L ORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. 19 And out of the ground the L ORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. 20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. 21 And the L ORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22 And the rib, which the L ORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. unto his wife 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife : and they shall be one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Genesis 2:4-25 NIV 4 This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the L ORD God made the earth and the heavens. 5 Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth and no plant had yet sprung up, for the L ORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground, 6 but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground. 7 Then the L ORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. 8 Now the L ORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. 9 The L ORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the groundtrees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. 10 A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. 11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx are also there.) 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush. 14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates. 15 The L ORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the L ORD God commanded the man, You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die. 18 The L ORD God said, It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him. 19 Now the L ORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the L ORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the mans ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the L ORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man. is united to his wife 24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. 25 Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

Genesis 2:45 CEV When the L ORD God made the heavens and the earth, 5 no grass or plants were growing anywhere. God had not yet sent any rain, and there was no one to work the land. 6 But streams came up from the ground and watered the earth. 7 The L ORD God took a handful of soil and made a man. God breathed life into the man, and the man started breathing. 8 The L ORD made a garden in a place called Eden, which was in the east, and he put the man there. 9 The L ORD God placed all kinds of beautiful trees and fruit trees in the garden. Two other trees were in the middle of the garden. One of the trees gave lifethe other gave the power to know the difference between right and wrong. 10 From Eden a river flowed out to water the garden, then it divided into four rivers. 11 The first one is the Pishon River that flows through the land of Havilah, 12 where pure gold, rare perfumes, and precious stones are found. 13 The second is the Gihon River that winds through Ethiopia. 14 The Tigris River that flows east of Assyria is the third, and the fourth is the Euphrates River. 15 The L ORD God put the man in the Garden of Eden to take care of it and to look after it. 16 But the L ORD told him, You may eat fruit from any tree in the garden, 17 except the one that has the power to let you know the difference between right and wrong. If you eat any fruit from that tree, you will die before the day is over! 18 The L ORD God said, It isnt good for the man to live alone. I need to make a suitable partner for him. 19-20 So the L ORD took some soil and made animals and birds. He brought them to the man to see what names he would give each of them. Then the man named the tame animals and the birds and the wild animals. Thats how they got their names. None of these was the right kind of partner for the man. 21 So the L ORD God made him fall into a deep sleep, and he took out one of the mans ribs. Then after closing the mans side, 22 the L ORD made a woman out of the rib. The L ORD God brought her to the man, 23 and the man exclaimed, Here is someone like me! She is part of my body, my own flesh and bones. She came from me, a man. So I will name her Woman! He marries a woman 24 Thats why a man will leave his own father and mother. He marries a woman, and the two of them become like one person. 25 Although the man and his wife were both naked, they were not ashamed.

Genesis 2:4-25 The Message This is the story of how it all started, of Heaven and Earth when they were created. underground 5-7 At the time G OD made Earth and Heaven, before any grasses or shrubs had sprouted from the ground G OD hadnt yet sent rain on Earth, nor was there anyone around to work the ground (the whole Earth was watered by underground springs)G OD formed Man out of dirt from the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life. The Man came alivea living soul! 8-9 Then G OD planted a garden in Eden, in the east. He put the Man he had just made in it. G OD made all kinds of trees grow from the ground, trees beautiful to look at and good to eat. The Tree-of-Life was in the middle of the garden, also the Tree-of-Knowledge-of-Good-and-Evil. 10-14 A river flows out of Eden to water the garden and from there divides into four rivers. The first is named Pishon; it flows through Havilah where there is gold. The gold of this land is good. The land is also known for a sweet- scented resin and the onyx stone. The second river is named Gihon; it flows through the land of Cush. The third river is named Hiddekel and flows east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates. 15 G OD took the Man and set him down in the Garden of Eden to work the ground and keep it in order. 16-17 G OD commanded the Man, You can eat from any tree in the garden, except from the Tree-of-Knowledge-of- Good-and-Evil. Dont eat from it. The moment you eat from that tree, youre dead. 18-20 G OD said, Its not good for the Man to be alone; Ill make him a helper, a companion. So G OD formed from the dirt of the ground all the animals of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the Man to see what he would name them. Whatever the Man called each living creature, that was its name. The Man named the cattle, named the birds of the air, named the wild animals; but he didnt find a suitable companion. 21-22 G OD put the Man into a deep sleep. As he slept he removed one of his ribs and replaced it with flesh. G OD then used the rib that he had taken from the Man to make Woman and presented her to the Man. and embraces his wife 23-25 The Man said, Finally! Bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh! Name her Woman for she was made from Man. Therefore a man leaves his father and mother and embraces his wife. They become one flesh. The two of them, the Man and his Wife, were naked, but they felt no shame.

What Did I see that I did not see before? 1.Did you see that chapter 2:4-25 is a retell of chapter 1 with the addition of the creation of man and woman? 2.Did you know that man was purposed to work even before the curse in Genesis 3: 7-19 He told the Man: Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree That I commanded you not to eat from, Dont eat from this tree, The very ground is cursed because of you; getting food from the ground Will be as painful as having babies is for your wife; youll be working in pain all your life long. The ground will sprout thorns and weeds, youll get your food the hard way, Planting and tilling and harvesting, sweating in the fields from dawn to dusk, Until you return to that ground yourself, dead and buried; you started out as dirt, youll end up dirt. ?

What Did I see that I did not see before? 3. Did you the fact that God brought the woman to the man? 4. Did you see the fact that this is the first recorded marriage? 5. Did you see the rules of marriage demands a man and a woman?
