1 Exposition # 6. Delighting in the law of the Lord.
Series: Developing a powerful prayer life. Exposition # 6. Delighting in the law of the Lord. Pastor Yaciel Toledo.

2 Five basic types of prayer.
Praise and thanksgiving. Confession. Petition. Intercession. Meditation.

3 What’s meditation? The act of reflecting on God’s word and quietly listening for His still voice. Since prayer is a relationship with God, how can we have a balanced relationship if we do all the talking? A healthy relationship must be two-way. In prayer time, meditation is the period in which you quietly reflect on God’s scripture reading and the impressions God has given. A daily prayer journal is highly recommended. When we pray we talk to God; when we mediate He talks to us.

4 What’s meditation? Listening to God is the fundamental key to an effective prayer life. It is to be solely on the Word of God and what it reveals about Him. David found this to be so, and he describes that blessed are those whose delight is on the law of the Lord, and on his law meditates day and night, Psalm 1:2. True Christian meditation is an active thought process whereby we give ourselves to the study of the Word, praying over it and asking God to give us understanding by the Spirit, who has promised to lead us “into all truth” (John 16:13). Then we put this truth into practice, committing ourselves to the Scriptures as the rule for life and practice as we go about our daily activities. This causes spiritual growth and maturing in the things of God as we are taught by His Holy Spirit.

5 Examples of some verses to meditate:
Psa 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth!”  Can you remember the last time you sat in total silence except for the sounds of nature – listening intently to hear the voice of God. It is time to: Be still and know that I am God. Be still (cease striving) Rest, relax, chill out, stop fighting, drop your weapons Know that I am God Learn that I am God, or “see that I am God,” “Get to know me better” God is telling His children who are living in a busy world to stop, get quiet so that they can listen and get to know Him. It is only in stillness, the quiet, that we can hear the voice of God.

6 Examples of some verses to meditate:
1Ki 19:9  There he came to a cave and lodged in it. And behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 1Ki 19:10  He said, “I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.” 1Ki 19:11  And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 1Ki 19:12  And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. 1Ki 19:13  And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

7 Examples of some verses to meditate:
In the book of Psalms, the psalmist: Used to remember God on his bed, through the watches of the night., Psalm 63:6. Meditated on all of God’s works and considered what His hands have done, Psalm 134:5. Considered all of God’s works and meditated on all of His mighty deeds, Psalm 77:12. Meditated on God’s precepts and fixed his eyes on God’s ways, Psa 119:15. Stayed awake before the watches of the night, meditating on God’s promise, Psa 119:148.
