2 What are they? Tropical cyclones that cross the subtropical ridge axis into the Westerlies recurve due to increased westerly flow. The winds are predominantly from the southwest in the Northern Hemisphere and from the northwest in the Southern Hemisphere

3 Westerly Winds are known as prevailing winds
originate from high-pressure areas play an important role in carrying warm equatorial waters and winds to the western coasts of continents
