About GLWD Founded in 1985 Provide nutritious, tailored meals to sick people that cannot cook for themselves without charge Cook and deliver 4000 meals each weekday to all five boroughs in New York City, Newark and Hudson County and New Jersey Employ a team of registered dietitians who individually tailor meals to each client's specific medical requirements.

Volunteer Work Volunteer activities include: Van assisting Meal kit assembly Kitchen prep Tentative Schedule: * Since the church we will be staying at kindly provided us with free housing, they asked us to help them at their soup kitchen on Wed. at 12 PM. They will need about 5 volunteers. Note: Schedule of activities is tentative by the non-profit organization upon arrival Monday (7:30AM – 4PM)Van assisting Tuesday (9AM-12PM)Meal kit assembly Wednesday (9AM-4PM)Kitchen prep/soup kitchen at 12PM* Thursday (7:30AM-4:30PM)Van assisting Friday (9AM-12PM)Meal kit assembly

Volunteer Work Dress code: Clothing must cover shoulders, armpits, knees, and toes. Long sleeves must be pushed above elbows when working with food. Will provide hairnets Caps may be worn if covers hair No bracelets, watches, dangling earrings Training Will provide a Gods Love Orientation and kitchen safety training They offer free lunches that include a vegetarian option. Their volunteer lounge has coffee, tea, water, pastries.

Trip Details Located in Brooklyn, NY ~790 miles away. 12-hour drive Sleeping arrangements are made at Flatbush Reformed Church We will go grocery shopping when we arrive. A kitchen will be provide at the Church. Leave UIC Sunday, Dec. 15 th at 6AM. We will meet at the atrium (roundabout between East and West Commons). Return to UIC Saturday, Dec. 21 st

What To Bring Appropriate clothing that follows the dress code when working in the kitchen Sleeping bags, pillows, air mattresses A positive attitude! You are there to VOLUNTEER. Please be professional and work hard. Represent ASB and UIC well.

Free Time/Fun Time Suggestions! Staten Island Ferry – The ferry is one of the best FREE things to do in NYC! Truth be told, theres not much to do when you get to the other side, but the boat is a fun ride and you get an amazing view of the Statue of Liberty! Bryant Park– Ice skating ($15 skate rental) Times Square Johns of Bleecker Street – brick-oven pizzas Russ and Daughters – authentic New York bagels These are only some suggestions. Ideas are open for discussion!
