What is an Engineer?
An Engineer changes the world around them by making creative, practical solutions to life’s problems using math and science.
An Engineer works with other smart, inspiring people to invent, design, and create things that matter.
Let’s start off with our class definition of what an engineer is…

These are five important ideas about engineers and their work.
Curiosity—Engineers ask lots of questions that start with: Why? How? What if?
Creativity—Engineering is a great outlet for the imagination—the perfect field for independent thinkers.
Teamwork—Engineering takes teamwork, and engineers work with all kinds of smart, inspiring people inside and outside the field.
Opportunities—An engineering degree offers lots of freedom in finding a person’s dream job. Bosses know an engineer is a well-educated individual who has been taught ways of analyzing and solving problems that can lead to success in all kinds of fields.
Helping Others—Imagine what life would be like without pollution controls to preserve the environment, life-saving medical equipment, or low-cost building materials for fighting global poverty. All this and more takes engineering.
Finally over all of this, we lay SAFETY – Engineers are responsible with how they use, store, and maintain their equipment so that neither they nor the people with whom they work get hurt

4. CoE Open House
What we do:
In this class we will be safely making several different projects in our production lab.
We use the Engineering Design Process to try to get our projects right the first time, meeting the needs of the original problem.

6. Like the process says, before we build, we design!
You will learn how to draw with paper, AutoCAD, & Inventor

7. Then, we use various hand and power tools to bring our design ideas to life!

What have I done?
I’ve taught the engineering design process to students ranging in ages from college to preschool.
I’m an Engineer and worked for Trane (HVAC equipment)
