1 Bell work What could you study by using a telescope?
What could you study by using a microscope? Write your answers in your science journal.

2 Measurement notes

3 Describe three kinds of tools.
Objectives for today Describe three kinds of tools. Explain the importance of the International System of Units. Describe how to measure length, area, mass, volume, and temperature. Identify lab safety symbols, and demonstrate safe practices during lab investigations. 4 Units of Measurement The International System of Units Begun by the French Academy of Sciences in the late 1700s, the SI is used by almost all countries in the world. All SI units are based on the number 10, which makes conversion from one unit to another easy.

5 Length Measurement from one point to another SI-Meter
English Standard-inches, feet, yards, miles

6 Area Measurement of a surface Area=length x width SI-meters squared
English Standard-inches squared, feet squared, yards squared, miles squared, acres

7 Volume measurement of space taken up SI-liter
English standard-liquid oz, cup, pint, quart, gallon

8 Mass Measurement of matter, what it is made up of SI-kilogram
English Standard-solid oz. and pounds

9 Weight Measurement of the pull of gravity on an object SI-kilogram
English Standard- solid oz. and pounds

10 Temperature Measurement of hot/cold SI- Celsius or Kelvin
English Standard-Fahrenheit
