Slab Box with Cut Lid The students were instructed to make ¼ “ slab boxes that resembled a 4” x 6” index box. Cut 4 = 4”x6” & Cut 2 = 4” x 4” tiles Each joint of the box was trimmed to a 45 degree angle, scored & slipped together. A coil was then placed & blended into each seam. The boxes were constructed in the form of an enclosed rectangular prism first.

Once box was enclosed lid was cut off about 3/4”- 1” down from top of the box, in a unique pattern. A nature inspired or decorative knob was attached to the middle of the lid. The knob was not be a simple shape such as a square, rectangle, or sphere. Additional designs could have been applied or inscribed on the box as well.

Slab Box with Fitted Lid
Students were instructed to make a box using ¼” slab tiles. Box was 3½”x5½ ” wide & 2” tall, or 5”x5” wide & 2” tall. Each joint of the box was trimmed to a 45 degree angle and a coil was placed & blended into each seam. Box has a lid with a stopper that fits inside the box. The box & lid fit together evenly (it is flush with the edge of the box). The box has an applied pattern of texture on the outside.
