2. Slab Mugs Project Requirements
Create 2 Functional Mugs with Handles.
You may choose to either have them identical OR make them different with a unifying element of design (ex: same stripe, same texture, same form, same design, etc.).
Greenware Deadline: Friday, November 20th
Sketches: 5 different designs

3. To Create Your Mugs: take notes
Roll out a long ¼ inch slab
Cut into a rectangle at least 4 by 12 inches
Bevel the short sides
Add texture?
Form a cylinder
Make and attach a bottom
Score and slip!
Add a coil inside at the base of the wall
Shape and alter the mug’s form
Smooth the interior and soften the rim
Create and attach handles

4. Set of Slab Mugs Grading Rubric
Directions & Techniques - Followed all project directions and requirements (name & period written on all, handle is attached to all); used all appropriate techniques (functional size and shape, handle is ergonomic, rim is softened)
Composition & Creativity – Mug Set is highly developed and unified through a connecting element; interesting from all angles; surface is considered and enhances the piece (using texture plates or smooth with added design); showcases a high level of creativity of form; not plain
Craftsmanship - High level of craftsmanship; slabs are assembled evenly; everything (surfaces, details, connections/scoring & slipping) done in a neat and clean manner; no extra marks, gashes, remnants, or cracks; handles and rims are clean and not sharp in any areas
Effort & Participation - Student worked every day for the entire period without a reminder; cleaned up adequately and at the appropriate time each day; took responsibility for their project, work area, and respected the projects and work areas of others
