Metamorphic Rock: Rocks that are changed due to heat and pressure.

Contact Metamorphism: Magma or lava heats existing rock and changes it into metamorphic rock.

Regional Metamorphism: Change in rocks over a large area due to deep burial, heat and pressure. Often found near plate boundaries.

Types of Metamorphic Rock:
Foliated: Rocks that have a layered or banded appearance.

Non-foliated: Rocks that do not have bands or layers. Form where temperature is high, but pressure is not. Quartzite Marble

Parent Rock: What the rock was before heat and pressure changed it.
Daughter Rock: The metamorphic rock that results from changes made to the parent rock.
