5 Why Do A Series on Men and Women?
Because our world (and the god of this world) has so twisted God’s original design and purpose for men and women even Christians are confused.

6 Divine Design Four Part Series
God’s Amazing Creation of Man and Woman God’s original design for man and women The Marriage Covenant Why God created marriage and the roles of husband and wife within a Godly marriage The Beauty and Purpose of Sex The purposes of sex and male and female sexuality Dating God’s Way What the Bible says about dating and how to follow Godly dating principles into today’s society.

7 Our Challenge… Are we willing to take an objective look at how God has designed man and woman? Are we willing to challenge our stereo-types? Are we willing to change our beliefs about male and female based upon truth from God’s word? Are we willing to change our behaviors?

8 The Truth About Men and Women
“But the problem is not really with God or his word. The problem is with us. The difficulties we have with those texts that deal with the responsibilities of men and women lie in us-not in the clarity or goodness of God's word. We can expect God's word to speak clearly. And it does.” Claire Smith God’s Good Design: What the Bible Really Says about Men and Women

9 Part I: God’s Amazing Creation of Man and Woman
The Divine Design Part I: God’s Amazing Creation of Man and Woman

10 Physical Differences - Male & Female
Average man is taller and heavier than the average woman Men are approximately 30% stronger than women Men have larger hearts and lungs than women Women have better night vision than men Women have more sensitive hearing Women have a higher degree of body fat to muscle Men have more hair on their body

11 Differences in Male & Female Brains
Females have a larger Hippocampus (memory storage) Females have verbal centers in both the right and left sides of the brain – males usually only in the left. Testosterone (Male) - Causes more aggressive behavior Oxytocin – Bonding- relationship chemical – Higher in women Men have seven times more gray matter – Information and action processing centers Women have ten times more white matter – networking that connects the brains gray matter to processing centers

12 Physiological Differences - Male & Female
Men more aggressive & task oriented Generally women use around 20,000 words a day. Men use around 7,000 Men tend to be more singularly focused and one-dimensional Women are better at multi-tasking Men focus on logic-based communication whereas women tend to be more emotion-based Men deal with stress by ‘fight or flight’ whereas women tend deal with stress by ‘tend and befriend’ Women have larger social networks

13 Man and woman together ARE the image of God.
Genesis 1:26-27 26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Man and woman together ARE the image of God.

14 Genesis 2:18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.” ‘Helper’ - Azar - Assistant, One who assists another with what is needed. Eve was not ‘inferior’ to Adam. She was designed by God with distinct differences which would complete God’s purpose for creating mankind in His image. It was always God’s plan to create woman Man was incomplete without the woman

15 Genesis 2:21-22 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. 22 The Lord God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man.

16 The Creation of Woman ‘rib’ ‘side room’ (1 Kings 6 – Temple). Bones, flesh or cartilage around the heart. God did not create Eve as He created Adam – from the dust He purposefully created Eve from Adam’s side. “Eve was not taken out of Adam's head to top him, neither out of his feet to be trampled on by him, but out of his side to be equal with him, under his arm to be protected by him, and near his heart to be loved by him.” Matthew Henry

17 Mutually Complementary
Genesis 2:23 - The man said, “This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” Adam knew why God designed and formed Eve out of his own flesh. From one God made two with the purpose they would once again become one God designed this relationship to help us as humans understand the relationship he desires to have with us. One that causes us to be complete.

18 The Divine Design of Man and Woman
“The man is honored by the acknowledgment that the woman was created for him. The woman is honored by the acknowledgement that the man is incomplete without her. In humility, the woman acknowledges that she was made for man. In humility, the man acknowledges he is incomplete without the woman. Both share an equal dignity, honor and worth because of their created purpose.” Neil Anderson and Charles Mylander The Christ-Centered Marriage

19 Roles Inside and Outside of Marriage
Ephesians 5:  And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. 22 For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. Within the marriage covenant the husband is assigned a role of a leader. He is NOT intellectually superior nor is he more important in the eyes of God. He was designed from creation to lead in the marriage covenant Outside of marriage a man has no authority over a woman nor is superior to a woman.

20 What Went Wrong? Genesis 3:1-7 – The deception of Satan and the fall of man. Eve was deceived (1 Timothy 2:14) Adam willfully sinned (Romans 5:12 – 1 Cor 15:22) Satan’s first goal was to attack the differences and he began by introducing shame towards their sexual differences. He struck at the original design.

21 Looking to a man vs. looking to God
The Curse on Women Genesis 3:16 – To the woman He said, “I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you.” Desire – Tesquah - Very strong emotion or feeling to have to do something or a desire to be independent of, to turn away from. “I believe whether or not we translate the word ‘desire’ or ‘turning away’ the same point is made; the woman would have an inappropriate desire for her husband because of her lack of trust in God. In essence God was saying to Eve: ‘The desire of your heart is turning away from Me to your husband and he will rule over you.” Jane Hansen, Fashioned for Intimacy Co-dependence Looking to a man vs. looking to God

22 Where do we go from here? We first must understand how God designed man and woman We need to examine our own beliefs regarding these roles and change those beliefs where they are out of line with God’s purposes. We then need to change our behaviors.
