Tips for Nominators Merit-Based Scholarships
When selecting nominees, consider: - outstanding academic rigor and grade point averages - participation in honors programs - awards, honors, and recognition for academic achievement - service to the college and community Focal Point: Essay Students who have demonstrated leadership and initiative in service learning, who are problem solvers and solution seekers, or who have made lasting contributions to your campus or community may make excellent candidates. Anything submitted could be made public through the media should they be selected as a scholar. Be on the lookout for all types of scholars, including those seeking an associate degree, those planning to enter the workforce after graduation, and those intending to earn a bachelor’s degree. Essay: The centerpiece of the nomination is the 500-word essay describing the nominee’s most significant endeavor while attending college. This should center around one endeavor undertaken by the student that utilized his or her college education to improve his or her community or school. Judges look for innovative, creative, original and lasting achievements or undertakings. Publicity: publicity about their accomplishments could carry implications about their personal lives. Types: The program seeks to honor outstanding students who also represent the range of students found on American college campuses. Traditional, non-traditional and early-start students have all been named to the academic teams. Those seeking an associate degree as well as those intending to earn a bachelor’s degree are eligible.

Select exceptional role models Record: The judges look at the overall academic record and how well students’ courses match their career goals. A nominee with more than a couple of unexplained withdrawals will not typically advance in the competition. To ensure a quality candidate, it is wise to review a nominee’s transcript in advance for both breadth and depth. FAQs How does the workforce scholarship affect our state's All-State program? Will Workforce students be recognized on All State teams? Do we have to identify students before they can begin the application? Is there an online application form? If so, can ANY student access it and fill it out? I do understand that I will be submitting the final selections. I was just wondering if any students could find the link and self nominate. Will the FSA remain open November 15-December 1 for student edits? Will there be an extension offered to students who need to edit the app for nomination? Will the app be re-opened for a short period to allow nominated students to edit? I followed the directions to login and change my password. However, when I get logged in I do not see “Nominator” or “Dashboard” at the top of my screen. What is the difference between a Transfer Pathway student and a Workforce Pathway student? Are “gap-year” students eligible for the Workforce nomination? Will you explain the difference between a transfer and workforce nominator and when we would use which for nomination purposes. And if I’m a nominator for workforce, can I also nominate for transfer? I’m not sure any of our PTK advisors/honors coordinators know about the workforce nomination category. How would they identify workforce students for the application/nomination process? -NCS Workforce Nominators should be faculty or staff trained in the areas of workforce development and college transfer. How do I reach out to students on my campus? How do I identify workforce pathway students? "With Workforce Pathway, where does the money go if students aren't transferring?" "Where do I find the nominator templates that were on the nominator page previously?“ "What do Workforce students get if they are named a Workforce Pathway Scholar?" "How do recommenders upload their LORs for students?" "Can we nominate more than 2 students for Transfer if we do not have the 2 to nominate for Workforce?"
