7 Many: “Repent, the Kingdom of Heaven has come near!”
*Call to Worship One: Almost two thousand years ago, John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness: Many: “Repent, the Kingdom of Heaven has come near!”

8 *Call to Worship One: This is the one of whom the prophet Isaiah spoke when he said, "The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.' Many: O Lord, prepare our hearts more fully for the coming of the Kingdom of Heaven. Speak to us as you spoke to and through John the Baptist long ago.

10 All earth is waiting to see the Promised One, and the open furrows, the sowing of the Lord. All the world, bound and struggling, seeks true liberty; it cries our for justice and searches for the truth.

11 Thus says the prophet to those of Israel, “A virgin mother will bear Emmanuel,” for his name is “God with us,” our brother shall be, with him hope will blossom once more within our hearts.

12 Mountains and valleys will have to be made plain; open new highways, new highways for the Lord. He is now coming closer, so come all and see, and open the doorways as wide as wide can be.

13 In lowly stable the Promised One appeared, yet, feel his presence throughout the earth today, for he lives in all Christians and is with us now; again, with his coming he brings us liberty.

14 O Come, O Come, Emmanuel (Vs. 1-4 & 7)

15 Rejoice! Rejoice! Immanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
O come, O come, Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel that mourns in lonely exile here until the Son of God appear. Rejoice! Rejoice! Immanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

16 Rejoice! Rejoice! Immanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
O come, thou Wisdom from on high, and order all things far and nigh; to us the path of knowledge show and cause us in her ways to go. Rejoice! Rejoice! Immanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

17 Rejoice! Rejoice! Immanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
O come, O come, great Lord of might, who to thy tribes on Sinai's height in ancient times once gave the law in cloud and majesty in awe. Rejoice! Rejoice! Immanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

18 all peoples on thy mercy call.
O come, thou Root of Jesse’s tree, an ensign of thy people be; before the rulers silent fall; all peoples on thy mercy call. Rejoice! Rejoice! Immanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

19 O come, Desire of nations bind
all peoples in one heart and mind. From dust thou brought us forth to life; Deliver us from earthly strife. Rejoice! Rejoice! Immanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

29 Scripture Reading Jonah 1:12-17 12 He said to them, “Pick me up and throw me into the sea; then the sea will quiet down for you; for I know it is because of me that this great storm has come upon you.”13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring the ship back to land, but they could not, for the sea grew more and more stormy against them. 14 Then they cried out to the Lord,

30 “Please, O Lord, we pray, do not let us perish on account of this man’s life. Do not make us guilty of innocent blood; for you, O Lord, have done as it pleased you.” 15 So they picked Jonah up and threw him into the sea; and the sea ceased from its raging. 16 Then the men feared the Lord even more, and they offered a sacrifice to the Lord and made vows. 17 But the Lord provided a large fish to swallow up Jonah; and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
