10 SPED Inclusion: Federal and State are pushing for 80% inclusion
Individualized Education Program (IEP): Teachers need to read students’ IEPs Teachers should attend entire IEP meeting or provide input Admin working with Care coordinators to streamline IEP meetings Teachers should work with care coordinators to address IEP concerns

11 SPED Inclusion: Accommodations & Modifications
Accommodations and modifications (per IEP) provided in General Education setting DO COUNT toward Special Education Minutes Admin is liable, but teachers are RESPONSIBLE to educate all students

12 SPED Inclusion: “Specially designed instruction may be delivered by an individual under the guidance of or in consultation with a special education teacher. Special education is a service, not a specific person or place.” (HAR CHAPTER 60)

13 SPED Inclusion: If you... Incorporate the 7 Instructional Strategies
Focus on BERC’s 4 Habits (clear learning targets, turn and talk, feedback, positive environment) Embed Universal Design for Learning (e.g. student choice, multiple modes of input) …then you are already addressing the needs of ALL students.

14 SPED Inclusion: If you need additional supports…
Communicate & consult with Care Coordinators This is a two-way street between teacher and SPED care coordinators Seek support from Admin if needed
