General or Natural Revelation
Romans 1: For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

Special Revelation Hebrews 1:1-2 - Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, Whom He appointed the Heir of all things, through Whom also He created the world

Special Revelation John 1:1-2 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.

Theology – the study of God
from the Greek theologia (θεολογία), which derived from Τheos (Θεός), meaning "God", and -logia (-λογία), meaning "utterances, sayings, or oracles" (a word related to logos [λόγος], meaning "word, discourse, account, or reasoning") – study of…

Galatians 4:4-5 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.

transcendence of god The transcendence of God is closely related to His sovereignty. It means that God is above, other than, and distinct from all He has made - He transcends it all.

Immanence of god The literal meaning of the immanence of God is "to be within" or "near" in relation to God's creation. Immanence is closely related to God's omnipresence, in that God is always present within the universe, though distinct from it.

Luke 1:6-7 And they were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and statutes of the Lord. But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and both were advanced in years.

John’s Mission Luke 1:11-17 Luke 1:18-20

Note to self If Gabriel shows up with a proclamation from the throne room of God, don’t question it.

Zechariah’s prophecy Luke 1:67-79

Having the arrogance knocked out of you.
humility Having the arrogance knocked out of you.

Zechariah’s proclamation
Vs God has visited and redeemed Vs. 70 – God has confirmed the prophets Vs. 72 – God has confirmed His covenant Vs. 75 – We might be holy and righteous Vs. 77 – Salvation and forgiveness of sins Vs. 79 – Light and peace

Matthew 11:11 Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

For our consideration Why is the study of God foundational? How does Zechariah’s proclamation reveal aspects of God’s attributes? Do you know the Son personally? What does being a child of God mean to you today, tomorrow, and forever?

Prayer Focus Thank You Father for revealing Yourself to us, for You didn’t have to! Thank You for the Word of God that shows us Your love, grace, mercy, kindness, empowerment, purpose and so much more! Thank You for another day to grow.
