1
Oligotrophic Lakes By: Emily SEars
2
Productivity Very low square milligrams per day
3
Major Life Forms Rainbow trout, golden trout and cutthroat trout are commonly found Algae, Phytoplankton
4
Abiotic Limiting Factors
The limiting factors are phosphorus, salinity, sunlight, temperature, dissolved oxygen, fertilizers and pollutants.
5
Special Features Clear Water Excess Oxygen
6
Plant adaptation cold temperatures excess oxygen lack of phosphorus
7
Animal Adaptations Populations of algae and the animals that feed on them are lower in oligotrophic lakes because of low nutrient concentrations. Lake trout, require cold, well-oxygenated water and primarily live in the hypolimnion of oligotrophic lakes.
