Credit Checks The first round of Credit checks for all Grade 12 students will begin this week (for graduation NOT post-secondary requirements). Ultimately students are responsible for ensuring they have met any specific requirements they may have. A Potential Graduation List will be posted outside the Main Office next week. Students should check that they are on it and that their legal names are spelled correctly.

NSCC NSCC Programs If you applied last year, a transcript from this year should have been sent by Sept 30th. Apply, don’t wait! Typically, it is a first come first served basis for admission and many programs get waitlisted.

Application Process Online Many institutions within the Atlantic provinces have a March 1st or 15th 2019 deadline to be considered for Entrance Scholarships based on marks. Please note there are universities with deadlines in mid January for limited entry programs. outside the Atlantic provinces, the date varies, usually earlier than above. It is the Student’s responsibility to check with the school of his/her choice. Early Admissions? How to finance my education!
Register with on-line scholarship/awards search sites. ScholarshipsCanada Check with parents’ employment /union, students’ employers and community organizations if you are involved (i.e. Boys and Girls Club,Church, cadets, scouts, guides….). Announcements at HWHS (available on HWHS homepage , link to announcements on left ) and wall outside Guidance. Scholarship, bursary and award opportunities are updated on a regular basis on the guidance bulletin board.

HWHS School-Based Awards/Prizes
$100 to $1000 Most are sponsored by community groups such as the Freemasons, Lion’s Club, political parties, etc. Different criteria: financial need, disability, post-secondary program or institution, where you live, extra-curricular involvement. Complete a Student Awards Application online in December. DEADLINE April 1, 2019

Student Loans Applications for September 2019 will be available on-line May 2019. We will be hosting Student Assistance for a presentation in the Spring.

AARO & Visiting Institutions
We will host an AARO event in our school for grade 11 and 12 students on Thurs,Oct. 4th. There are institutions from Atlantic Canada and sometimes a few from Quebec and/or Ontario. An evening session will be held at Citadel High school from 6pm-7pm on Wed, Oct. 3rd Many institutions visit our school for presentations; most during the lunch hour. As well, all institutions offer campus visits/tours. It is highly recommended that students visit before making their final decision on a school. Students are informed of these visits in advance on the announcements.
