Monster.com: An Introduction
2
Job Title Search Keyword Search Location Search
Here you can put in a zip code, city, or state to find jobs in your area. I’ve put in Burlington, NC. If you know exactly what kind of job you want, this is the box for you! Don’t be too specific! The more specific you are, the fewer results you’ll get. Monster.com Homepage
3
Once you click “Search,” you’ll get a page that looks like this:
Then click on a job that looks promising – let’s try the nursing home administrator.
4
There will be a brief description of the job, along with a button marked “APPLY.” If the job looks like it will work for you, click that button! (Make sure you read the description carefully; don’t just assume you’re qualified. For example, this job requires a minimum of five years previous experience.) You can also save, , print, or share this job.
5
Next you’ll see this page, which wants you to create a profile.
Monster needs you to create a profile so that it has information to give employers. It’s just a few basic questions about you, plus your resume. Don’t panic! Go ahead and put in your address and create a password, then scroll down.
6
The next page wants you to upload your resume
The next page wants you to upload your resume. Click the “choose file” button, outlined here in red. Your computer will open a window to allow you to access your resume. Navigate to the file, then click “Open.”
7
When you’re done, the page should look like this, with your resume file name next to the “Choose File” button.
8
The next section of the page gives you the option of including a cover letter. If you want to include the cover letter, check the box next to “I want to include a cover letter.” If not, continue to scroll down the page. When you enter your cover letter, DO NOT copy it from a Microsoft Word document! The formatting will not be supported, and the letter will be difficult to read.
9
The next thing Monster wants is a brief personal profile : your name, location, authorization to work, career level, and educational level. Once you’ve filled out those fields, scroll down to the bottom of the page.
10
The last thing you need to do to apply for this job is click “Yes” or “No” in response to these offers, then click the big “SUBMIT” button. It will take Monster a few seconds to process your application, and then you’ll see a page confirming your submission – you’ve just applied for a job through Monster.com!
