Knowsys Vocabulary About Me! Welcome to 6th Grade Language Arts
My goal is to make sure this class is a safe and inviting place for your child. And maybe enjoy reading, even if it's just a little! I've grown up in Tomball and have always taught in Tomball schools. I graduated from Tomball High School and Sam Houston State University. I have three kids. One in junior hgh, one in middle school, and one in elementary. I have been teaching for 15 years. I taught fourth grade at Willow Creek for 13 years, but I love sixth grade! HOMEWORK Homework will only consist of work your child didn't finish during the school day. There will be no formally assigned homework this year for Language Arts. I ask you to spend your evenings doing things that are proven to correlate with student success. Enjoying extra-curricular activities, eating dinner as a family, read together, play outside, and get your child to bed early. Our vocabulary study will be based on the Knowsys SAT Vocabulary Program. Each week the students will copy down the words and definitions in class and do assorted activities with the words throughout the week. On Thursdays, we will take a Vocabulary quiz. The students will be choosing the vocabulary word that best fits into an authentic sentence; therefore memorizing definitions will not be enough to achieve success. Students should practice using the words properly in sentences. Quizzes will include questions over previous weeks' words, so students should study for long-term retention. This program builds upon itself so students will be expected to have command of both the new words and the previously learned words- which is the goal of any vocabulary curriculum. Although we will not have a weekly Spelling Test as such, the students are responsible for knowing how to spell the vocabulary words as we learn them. The lists can be found on my teacher website. Welcome to 6th Grade Language Arts Mrs. Tiffany Vincent
